Well I have eaten here a few times and the food is good. But if hour going for pints order your brew in a bottle! The glasses have some of the nastiest hard water stains i have ever seen! Not sure how bar staff can actually serve drinks in the glassware! Brought this to there attention and all i got was a shoulder shrug while being told its hard water!!!! Duh. Brought this to there attention through facebook via private message and was blocked! Nice place, descent food and very poor pints on tap!
The Albion has become a very sad place to eat. Where the food was always excellent although basic the quality was excellent. This is no longer the case. The menu is all over the place which in this case is not a good thing. They do nothing well as far as we could tell in several visits.
A great all round experience. The food was excellent, the price was beyond reasonable, the service was good and the place was bustling with happy people. The Rowe Farms natural beef burger comes with your choice of organic salad or fries or they are cheerfully willing to serve you half fries and half salad. Has to be the best deal in town and still on the healthy side.
Best Patio in Guelph located on the 2nd floor. You can sit up and enjoy a smoke and be outside in the sun. They have really stepped up thier game with thier menu. Burger is awesome. Staff are nice and Management care about thier customers, something the people before didn't.
I've been to the Albion before it was renovated, and I have to say it is a world of change of how it used to be. The place is very cleaned up and polished, with a elegant dining and bar area downstairs and a nice upstairs bar area. The venue also has an upstairs and downstairs patio, although the upstairs one is more of a place to smoke than sit. Upstairs Albion during the weekend becomes busier past 10:00 and has a DJ usually playing a dance beats. The area is not too crowed, and since the dance floor is a distance from the back seating area you can hear what people are saying to you. With reasonably priced drinks, many good nights have been had there. I had never eaten at the Albion, but my first time was a positive experience. I sat on the patio and looked over the menu. Their usual pub fare is a little more expensive than other venues, by about a $1, but they do boast organic salads and locally produced meat on their menu. The Pulled Pork sandwich was very good, the meat tender and a large amount on a sesame seed bun, topped with coleslaw and red onions. The salad was tasty with actually ripe delicious tomatoes, although a little small. I'm finding places are really chinsy with salads, whats up with that? Anyways I would definitely go to the Albion again for lunch, dinner, or some night life!
I find this place really touch and go. There are times I have gone where the food has been excellent, and other times it has been terrible. I will go back again because the drinks and atmosphere are great, but I wont expect much from the food and service. If you have plans for after dinner, don't expect to make them on time. The last time I went it was more then 3 hours from start to finish. An hour just to receive our appetizer. And my dinner, which was meat loaf, was a giant, incredibly dry meat ball. But the spinach goat cheese salad was excellent. Thankfully I was with great friends to keep me occupied.
Haven't been to the Albion in a while and recently went back with a friend for a drink or two. Love the vegetarian options and the large portion sizes. Onion ring appetizer was way too big for two people to share, we left most of it even though it was delicious. Homemade veggie burger also was fantastic.
For years the Albion has been our destination for lunch and we primarily come on weekends. The constant menu changes and food quality is frustrating to say the least but we've always had great service. Our server this week seemed new, a bit confused and was very slow. Some food on the menu wasn't available and when we finally ordered it took foever and was so so. The music was much too loud. We would have drank more but the server was nowhere to be seen. I used to come in after work with a few co-workers but the music was even louder and frankly the atmosphere just didn't do it for me. My husband and I were regulars since university days but this isn't our bar any more. If the service doesn't improve on our next visit, we'll go somewhere that cares.
They say you can never go home again, I guess. Since the place has been renovated, it seems to have lost its edge. The Albion kitchen was known for simple fare - burritos, burgers, nachos. Now that it has a formal menu and table service, its lost any distinction. The food was all pretty pedestrian. I assumed that nachos would be a safe bet, but knew I was in some trouble when the waiter advised I order it with extra cheese. What are nachos for, after all, if not for the cheese? I'll be back at some point, though probably only for drinks. Too bad, so sad....
My husband and I made plans with another couple and they suggested the albion. Our server was adorable, and helped us pick out our first round of apps. The baked brie was delicious! I loved the mango chutney! We tried about 6 diffeent appetizers and loved them! Sweet potato fries were fantastic. I felt a little guilty for asking the server so many times which songs were playing, but I loved the music. Before we knew it we had finished up our second bottle of wine and had to turn in for the night. It was a great experience and we will definitely be coming back again.
I have been going to the Albion for years, but haven't really come in since the reno's happened. My friend talked me into coming in to check it out, so we went for dinner after work. My server convinced me to get the curry chicken and it was AMAZING! I don't know what other people on this page are talking about with small portions, if your hungry get the curry!!! She had the salmon pie (which I took a nibble of), it was rich and delicious as well. I love that they have Tankhouse on tap, that was also a huge plus. Trust me, if you haven't tried the 'bin' out yet, get there.
Everything was great! We went on a Friday night, started with the free mussel bar!! Not a bad start. They were delish and there was live music over dinner which was really nice. Our server was really friendly, she told us about the pickle spears. They were so tasty. The martini menu was really fun too. I would recommend this place for sure!!
I went with my family a while ago. It was the first time I had gone there but my sister has been there before and she said it was good so we went there. The food was good, it just took a while to get it. We were the only people in the restaurant tho. Since they took a long time to give us our food they gave us free desserts. I had a piece of strawberry cheesecake and it was delicious. When we were walking home i was feeling extremely sick and I threw up several times on the way home.
I have to say first, that the place is very nice inside, and that the service was good as well. Thats where it stopped. The Meat loaf I ordered was room temperature and not very tasty. I had sent it back and they microwaved it and brought it out right away. I ate it but did not enjoy it. The table next to us sent back all of the fries saying that they were still raw inside. I thought the menu was not very good and small. The beer selection was very good. I think the kitchen needs some serios help. I would go back but only for drinks and not food
Since the new owners took over The Albion Hotel is nothing what it used to be. Aside from the great job they did on the interior design, the food has gone waaay downhill. I even put the time aside to write this short review, it was that bad. I had the burger and fries. The patty was alright but the bun was one of the store bought, formaldehyde laced type, and was slightly soggy. The fries were so over cooked and greasy you couldn't tell that they were fresh cut. I've been there since and made the same mistake again, thinking it was just the night. I won't go back again.
Great time. Food took a while, but sitting on the patio enjoying the night and the server was great, so it made up for it. When the food came it was really good
Service was great, unfortunately the kitchen ran out of curry to make what I had wanted. So I was left with limited choices, ended up ordering the grillled chicken sandwhich. I think they shaved 1/8 of a chiken breast, off and slapped it between 2 peices of bread and threw in some spring mix salad. I really wasn't impressed. I think I will just stick to having beers at this place, and maybe an appetizer from time to time. Definately not a place to go for a dinner.
Been a regular (as most of my friends have) since the 70's. since Roger sold, this new ownership has ripped out the soul of the place. food has taken a nose dive. prices are too high, quantity and quality has dropped off...service is better (it was always bad - but that was part of the experience) too bad the oldest and most reliable pub with it's own mystique and personal;ity is dead!
But it was lovely to be back! It must be a year or two since the renovations and it still seems kind of wrong, but at least our waitress was pretty Albion-ish. She warned us off of substituting sweet potato fries for regular, because she said that if we paid the $3 upgrade fee we'd be annoyed at how few we got. She suggested a regular order of sweet potato fries ($5.79) and getting the meals with salad or regular fries, but I wasn't that hungry or that in need of sweet potatoes. The veggie burgers are made in house, and very beany - yum! She was also really helpful about the martinis, since I am allergic to vodka she had the bartender mix cosmos with gin instead...I might have a new addiction. The drinks were great, but the first two were really strong (and really delicious) while the last time had a lot more juice and was no where near as good...not something I'd be sad about in the reverse order, but since our first two were barely pink and the last one was red, we definitely noticed a quality difference....maybe a new bartender? A manager watching? It was a great night, and a perfect way to spend a summer evening.
I love the patio the service is good the food is good but SERIOUSLY why can't you get sweet potato fries as a side? I can't eat an entire order to myself along with my meal that comes with regular fries. Not to mention sweet potato fries would be an easy upsell for a server. I mean I don't want to pay $6 for an entire order, but I would replace my fries with sweet fries even if it cost an extra $3. they do have takeout containers now, which is great, If I don't finish my meal I can now take the left overs instead of wasting them.
