First Dance Vancouver

The surprise wedding dance is now a YouTube staple: Gangnam Style walks down the aisle, waltzes evolving into hip hop, and boy band classics from the groomsmen. Founded by professional dance artists, Delphine Leroux and Kara Nolte, First Dance Vancouver helps Vancouverites to capitalize on this passion for performance by providing tailored shows, lessons and choreography for weddings, corporate events and even flash mobs.

One of First Dance’s most popular services is teaching betrotheds the company’s namesake: choreography for the first dance of their wedding. Delphine and Kara work with couples of all levels to help them “offer something beautiful to their friends and family.” Most clients, they say, want to ensure they have a plan for the dance floor. First Dance meets with couples in person to explore their dynamic, vision for the dance and level of physical ability. Choreographed over six one-hour sessions, the finished product is a step-perfect three-to-four-minute contemporary routine to a chosen song. “We put you in the spotlight,” smiles Delphine.

Exuberant yet graceful, easy to laugh yet professional, the First Dance duo have decades’ of experience to bring to their latest venture. Their combined resume includes training at Arts Umbrella and Ailey School in New York City, seasons with Ballet British Columbia, a performance in the opening ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics, and an international touring schedule.
